RTEC Fleet Management
RTEC's preventive maintenance program ensures that the useful life of each bus or
van exceeds the standard of replacement at five years or 100,000 miles.
RTEC constantly works toward accessing new equipment to upgrade its fleet and
to increase services. New vehicle operators are orientated toward their role in the
preventive maintenance plan and ongoing monitoring of the program is conducted.

Maintenance Facility Features
RTEC's maintenance facility is located at 85 spring Street, Mount Vernon.
The facility consists of 20,475 square feet. Inside the garage, the 2-bays are 1,485
square feet enclosed for vehicle repair, tire changing, and the ongoing preventive
maintenance program.
RTEC's Auction
On March 21, 2003, RTEC held a public auction to dispose of
old equipment to help raise the matching funds for new vehicles and to update the
inventory. All of the vehicles exceeded 100,000 or 200,000 miles. Several of the
vehicles had over 300,000 miles to their credit and an endless count of passenger trips to
the doctor, shopping and other services. As you can see, we have kept these around
for quite some time and have maintained them very well.
One of the items to be sold was a 1986 Ford 15-passenger van. This was the first federal
and state funded vehicle through Section 5310 for Rockcastle County to provide services
for the elderly and disabled. Another vehicle, a 1988 Ford 15-passenger van was also
sold at auction, being the first federal and state funded vehicle provided to RTEC for
public transportation services. |
